Modded Cycles

1

What do you want to install?

Your machine

2

Load your official OS file

Don't have it? Download Model:Cycles OS 1.13 from elektron.se, then unzip it. It stays on your computer.

3

Connect your Model:Cycles over USB

Info

  1. Connect the Model:Cycles to the computer with a USB cable and turn it on normally. Stay on its usual screen: no menu to open.
  2. Close Elektron Transfer and any music software that uses the Model:Cycles: they hold its USB port.
  3. Allow MIDI access below: the page finds the Model:Cycles and shows its OS version.
4

Flash

Something went wrong?
Nothing happens on the Model:Cycles screen
Fast method: step 3 must say that the Model:Cycles was found. Classic method: check that CONFIG › UPGRADE is open and waiting. Either way, pick the port named “Model:Cycles” in step 3 and close Elektron Transfer, Overbridge and your music software (on Windows they lock the port), then try again.
The transfer stops, or the Model:Cycles shows an error
Turn the Model:Cycles off and on and flash again. With the classic method, open CONFIG › UPGRADE again and set Advanced › Send speed margin to 2.0 first.
No MIDI port in the list
Connect the Model:Cycles with a USB cable that carries data (some cables only charge), turn it on, then click Refresh. Some systems only show a new device after the browser is restarted.
The fast method doesn't find the Model:Cycles, or stops
Turn the Model:Cycles on normally (not in CONFIG › UPGRADE), close Elektron Transfer, then click Refresh in step 3. If it still fails, choose Classic in step 3: slower, but it doesn't need answers from the machine. Elektron Transfer works too: download the .syx (step 4) and drop it onto Transfer's window.
The update over USB is refused, or the Model:Cycles doesn't start any more
Recovery goes through the startup menu, which only listens to the MIDI IN (it needs a MIDI interface).
Advanced
Classic method only. 1.4 by default: raise it to 2.0 if the transfer stalls.

Credits

This flasher stands on the shoulders of these projects, none of which includes firmware:

Built on the Modded-Cycles toolchain (18nelli18 and contributors, MIT) and model27 (durchgemacht, MIT); the low-level code (mtlib) is drumkilla's (MIT). Third-party code keeps its own license; Elektron's firmware is not covered.
